My Colorado Journey
A collaborative project led by the
Colorado Workforce Development Council
My Colorado Journey is the state’s free web-based platform connecting jobseekers and students to careers, education planning, and support resources through a guided process that drives action and goal completion. During the Data for the American Dream initiative, the platform was significantly scaled up. More than 30,000 Colorado students and jobseekers have already completed steps and achieved goals on their way toward quality jobs and informed academic choices.
The tool is now a full production platform that integrates information and functions from other web resources, including:
College in Colorado: originally designed to support secondary-to-postsecondary transition;
Careers in Colorado: originally designed as a free, online tool for the exploration of in-demand career pathways; and
TalentFOUND Jobseeker and Student Gateway: originally designed to connect jobseekers, students, and workers with the already existing services and resources most relevant to them in designing their own unique paths to work and career success.
My Colorado Journey provides content in the form of Outcomes, Goals, and Steps on a wide array of subject areas ranging from "find a career I will love" to finding an education/training program in their area that best aligns with their goals. The platform also provides information on and connections to support services (such as food, transportation, and childcare resources), financial education and literacy, and wage outcomes for completers of various education and training opportunities. My Colorado Journey also will soon integrate information from the state's labor exchange, Connecting Colorado, which will allow users to avoid entering the same information in multiple places.
My Colorado Journey’s development was the product of a multi-agency, public-private partnership guided by a steering committee. The partners on the project include: the Colorado Workforce Development Council, the Colorado Department of Higher Education, the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, the Colorado Department of Human Services, the Governor’s Office, the Colorado Community College System, Colorado Succeeds, Skillful, Brighthive, PAIRIN, and Ligature Creative.
In addition, the Colorado Data Trust (which Includes many of the same partners) has been more fully developed. The Data Trust has provided opportunities to build enhanced relationships and policies among partners around well-governed, responsible data sharing as well as infrastructure to facilitate the sharing of data. This leads to better understanding between partners and more opportunities to find alignment on shared goals.
The Colorado team is working on more fully integrating My Colorado Journey as the primary jobseeker tool in the state. The team continues to focus on outreach, impact, and adoption, with attention to feedback loops. They are working to increase the number of public and private partners and advocates of the tool to ensure its effectiveness and sustainability.
